NeuroMetrix announced the launch of the Quell device for the treatment of chronic pain in patients with conditions such as diabetic nerve pain, low back and leg pain, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis pain.

Quell is an over-the-counter (OTC) lightweight wearable pain relief device that can be worn during daytime activities and at night while sleeping. Quell is worn on the upper calf and is currently the only wearable pain relief device that is cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for use during sleep.

The device utilizes OptiTherapy, a non-invasive neurostimulation technology, to provide relief in as little as 15 minutes. The algorithm automatically determines an intensity within the recommended range and compensates for nerve habituation.

The device can sense when the user is lying down and switches to night therapy to maintain restful sleep. Each session lasts for 60 minutes and it switches between 60 minute on- and 60 minute off-periods.

The Quell Relief app also allows users to track sessions, view sleep quality over time, and control features via Bluetooth technology. The rechargeable battery provides up to 40 hours on a single charge.
