HealthDay News — Rush University Medical Center’s website has started adding the results of patient surveys to individual physician profiles, according to a report published by the medical center.
Feedback is gathered each year using data from approximately 17,000 patients who receive mail or e-mail surveys after appointments. Patients are asked for feedback about care and service in more than 30 questions, including 10 that focus on their care providers.
Patient feedback will be made available for any provider for whom the medical center has received 30 or more surveys in a one-year period.
Patient responses to the survey are used to determine how many stars each physician receives; no surveys are excluded or removed.
Rush University has added this information to about 100 physician profiles since the start of 2015 and expects to reach 180 physicians. Verbatim patient comments taken from the surveys will soon be added to the profiles.
“The general trend in health care is toward increased transparency,” Anthony Perry, MD, vice president of ambulatory care and population health at Rush, said in a statement. “We want to embrace that trend, because we believe that information will empower patients who are making important decisions and simultaneously inspire us to be the best we can be on their behalf.”
